What is a gland follower?
A gland follower, also known as a gland sleeve or packing follower, is a device used in pumps and valves to hold mechanical seals in place and apply pressure to them. The gland follower is a cylindrical component that is inserted into the pump or valve housing and is used to compress the mechanical seal against the shaft, creating a seal.
Gland followers are typically made of a hard, durable material such as metal or ceramic, and they are designed to withstand the high pressures and temperature changes that can occur in many pumping and valve applications. They are typically used in conjunction with other sealing materials, such as braided packing or elastomeric seals, to create a multi-layered seal that is able to withstand the demanding conditions found in many applications.
Gland followers are an important component in many pumping and valve systems, as they help to prevent leaks and maintain the integrity of the system. They are widely used in a variety of industrial, chemical, and water treatment applications.
