SealRyt FAQ - Answering Your Questions About Our Products
In this blog post (and in the video below),we’ll dive into some of the most frequently asked questions about SealRyt’s high-performance products.
What Does SealRyt Do?
SealRyt started as a packing manufacturer and evolved to offer cutting-edge solutions like the PackRyt® bearing. This development was driven by the desire to prevent packing or sealing devices from being the first point of failure in pumps or any machinery requiring seals. With various configurations like the BLR bearing, diverter options, and segmented bearings, SealRyt ensures optimal performance through a variety of choices that meet specific needs across industries.
What Is the PackRyt® Bearing?
The PackRyt® bearing is a close-tolerance bearing designed to stabilize the shaft of pumps. Unlike bushings, which are often usedas a general solution, this bearing is specifically engineered to prevent failures by providing a bearing surface. It’s a critical component that ensures that your pumps and machinery work smoothly, extending their lifespan.
What is a Durapack?
The DuraPack® system combines SealRyt’s patented SLR® (Structural Lantern Ring) with the PackRyt® BLR Bearing for shaft stabilization, optimizing flush water distribution and minimizing clogging. This design allows users to pull the Lantern Ring out for easy cleaning without having to remove the entire bearing. The result? A highly efficient and maintainable system that prevents common issues such as clogging, making it a valuable option for industries requiring precision and reliability.
PackRyt® vs. Competitor Products:What’s the Difference?
What sets SealRyt apart from competitors? The material composition of SealRyt products is proprietary, offering unique benefits that are not available in other products. The manufacturing process also stands out for its attention to detail and focus on tolerances, ensuring that SealRyt products outperform similar offerings in every application. Our company is dedicated to our products and the research that goes into them ensures superior performance and reliability.
Do I Really Need to Measure forProper Fit?
We recommend measuring the equipment to ensure the exact fit of the product. While we can provide a budgetary quote based on a drawing, actual measurements ensure accuracy. If your equipment is down and you can’t measure, we will still work to get a product to you quickly, minimizing downtime.
Do SealRyt Products Come Split?
Yes, all SealRyt products are designed to come split unless a customer specifically requests solid versions. The split design allows for easy installation and removal, making maintenance and repairs more straightforward.
Do I Need an Anti-Rotation Pin?
No, the PackRyt® bearing doesn’t require an anti-rotation pin. Thanks to the thermal expansion of the material, the bearing locks into the bore of the equipment, ensuring it doesn’t rotate. While there have been rare instances of rotation due to unusual conditions, these are not typically related to the design or performance of the PackRyt® bearing itself.
How do I get it out?
When it comes time to replace the packing, getting the old material out properly is crucial. To start, ensure you have the right tools, like a packing extractor to gently remove the packing from the stuffing box or gland. Be sure to avoid damaging any parts of the equipment. If the packing is particularly stubborn, you can soften it by spraying with a penetrating oil or solvent, but make sure it’s safe for use with your system. The key is patience, take your time to carefully remove all the old packing before you replace it.
Why do we need clean water? And what do we do if we don't have clean water?
Clean water is essential for the proper functioning of industrial systems. It ensures that the pumps, seals, and other equipment function smoothly without contamination or blockages. Additionally, dirty water can accelerate wear and tear on packing, leading to leaks and equipment failure. If clean water is unavailable, something you’ll just need to let us know about by providing a parts per million.
Why do you recommend no flush outlet?
A no flush outlet is often recommended because it helps to minimize leakage and environmental contamination. It’s best to balance the amount of water going around the circumference of the bearing to allow for cooling at the same time using the flush water as a part of the seal.See our article in Engineer Live for more information.
How tight do we tighten the gland follower? Should we see dripping out of the gland follower?
When tightening the gland follower, it’s essential to avoid over-tightening, which can cause damage to the packing or the shaft. Tighten it enough to compress the packing and prevent leakage, but ensure it’s not too tight to cause excessive friction or wear. A slight drip from the gland follower during initial operation is normal as the packing settles. However, if dripping continues after a few hours of running, it’s a sign that the packing might need additional adjustment or replacement. Always monitor the gland follower and make adjustments as needed.
Why do you use two different styles of packing sometimes but not others?
We use two different styles of packing depending on the specific requirements of the application. For example, some pumps or valves may require a style with higher chemical resistance, while others need a packing style that handles higher temperatures or pressures. The choice is based on balancing performance, cost, and the expected lifespan of the packing. By using the most appropriate packing style for each scenario, we optimize the efficiency of the system and avoid unnecessary failures or wear.
Will you cut packing for us?
Yes, we offer packing cutting services to ensure that your packing material fits your specific application. Custom-cut packing is especially beneficial when dealing with non-standard sizes or specialized equipment. We can provide packing that fits perfectly into your system, reducing leakage and improving performance. Cutting packing to the correct dimensions ensures that the material fits precisely, minimizing the chance of any gaps or misalignment that could lead to issues down the line.
